Project
I am interested in making an alternative game for the X series.  My programming classes won't start until next year, but I would like to get it underway so that I may begin the processes and have the other stuff ready.


What is it?
As we all know, or are about to find out, Zero was originally a Meverick, but during some fight somewhere, he essentially switched sides with his opponent.

Similarly, Megaman X begins with Dr. Light telling whoever found the capsule, that "X" could very easily become good...or bad.

If you haven't picked up on it yet, the key of this game will be the un-abstraction of the idea, what if X had been bad?  What if Zero had stayed a Maverick?  What would the world have been like if the whole world had been twisted around from where it did?

These questions are to be answered in Megaman X Dark.

What I need
Obviously, I will be able to program the thing myself.  I will also be able to write the story on my own, come up with bosses, design level layouts and the sort.  What I need is someone who can draw sprites, and someone who can do backgrounds/topography.  This will be a long project, and the overall quality that I'm looking for is something along the lines of Megaman X, as for art.  Translators may or may not be needed, it depends on if any of the staff wishes it to be accessible in different languages.  Also, I will need a story adviser, to let me know if the story gets too un-Megaman.  Lastly, a cut-scene artist would be appreciated.

What it will eventually be
Eventually, we will have the game ready, and I will put it in an .exe file that may be downloaded from my TFCPH server.  Anyone who has helped will also be able to put the game one their sites, though the download should stay on my server to save space.  Credits will be given to those who participate, and this may get you some recognition.

Forte reporting for duty. I can make sprites. Depending on if you want it 32 bit like X4+ or 16 bit like X-X3.

I have Maverick Zero sprites in 32 bit already. I could just as easily make an evil looking X, which of course means he would be ten times more awesome than he is now. (When I say Maverick Zero, I mean sprites that look like he did in X1, see the comic) But who will our hero be?

I was thinking old school just to make it easy on us, but we can go for a newer school if all the artists are up to it.

Zero should be in standard maverick form.  X should be true blue.  Why?  Because he awoke true and blue.

Our hero?  You still play X and Zero.  It's just turned around.  We'll start from the beginning where X1 began, and twist from there.

We'll be needing full fledged X & Zero Sprite Sheets for this one.  We can collaborate on their design, but they will be unique.

well wait just one minute. I just thought of something. If X is evil, there won't be any more reploids. Dr. Cain based all the rest off of X's designs. If Cain never gets X's designs or anything then there will be no enemies.

I thought X's capsule was in Cain's lab.  In any case, we'll warp the story any way we need to in order to make it work...or we can just say it will.

And remember, Sigma will save us all.  (Sigma!  For great Justice!)

Sigma can't be created without Cain knowing about X's plans. Maybe my remake of RockMan 2 is a better idea...

Just so that you'll know, Dr. Cain isnt a robotics scientist. He's an archaeologist. He unearthed the ruins of a lab and found X there. From there he studied X and created other reploids. Then he created Gamma and Sigma to be leaders of the Reploids. Gamma was sent to investigate a large power coming from another recently discovered lab. He never returned and Sigma was sent to find what happened to him and his unit. Sigma and Zero fought a long battle (See X4) and the virus was transferred between them.

So what if the virus never switched hands?  Obviously it did so before X awoke, and  that's when they would've found if X was safe or not.  The machines could've broken down, and just left X in a long sleep.

No. It didn't before X awakened. With no X there is no Sigma, there is no fight with Zero. Zero would have sat in Wily's lab for some time.

Hmm...okay, I guess your my official story adviser.

So... Instead of Cain sending Sigma, he sends X? How interesting... But the fight doesn't leave Zero with the virus.

Sigma goes, Sigma returns.  Sigma was not infected, but ran away.  Scraps of the virus emanate from him (as a human would if they were around a sick person but were immune).  X becomes infected.  X and Zero join forces, and Sigma tries to stop them.

So we play as Sigma!? Brilliant idea but now I want to go 16 bit.

Hmm...

I was just going to have you play as X and/or Zero, but being able to choose your side may be an added fun.

And then in sequels, we can still feature the choice, but act like what the other side's story did never happened.

A MAJOR key for making a good game, make it personal, and allow choices, this makes the player feel more involved.

I'm going to work on X's 16 bit sprite sheet. I want to make the maverick virus corrupt him like it would anyone.
